Searched everywhere it could be this morning looking for my wallet. As I went back to the place I believe it could be one last time, I still couldn’t find it. Then I remembered teaching that you could ask the Holy Spirit for the littlest things, as soon as that thought came, I said, “Holy Spirit where’s my wallet”. The next second, by probably the last breath of those words. I was scared for a moment. Right by my hand, where I rested my right hand while I searched, there it was. All I needed to do was move my eyes, not sure if it’s been sitting there all along or not. The Holy Spirit is best at seeking the lost; things or people. I can’t describe the awe. The Lord is to be greatly feared and honored. He’s closer than we may ever know. The fellowship with the Holy Spirit is so real!
The parable of the lost coin in Luke 15:8-10 is a story about a woman who lost a valuable coin and searched diligently until she found it. Here is the passage:
“Or suppose a woman has ten silver coins and loses one. Doesn’t she light a lamp, sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it? And when she finds it, she calls her friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost coin.’ In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”
This parable is often used to illustrate how God seeks after and rejoices over the salvation of each and every person. Just as the woman searched diligently for her lost coin, God searches for those who are lost in sin and rejoices when they repent and turn to Him.
In Psalm 119:176, the psalmist says, “I have strayed like a lost sheep. Seek your servant, for I have not forgotten your commands.” This passage also speaks to the idea of being lost and needing to be found. The psalmist acknowledges his own wandering and asks God to seek him out and bring him back into a right relationship with Him.
Overall, the Bible teaches that God is a loving and merciful God who seeks after those who are lost and desires for them to be found. Just as the woman in the parable searched for her lost coin and rejoiced when she found it, God searches for us and rejoices over our repentance and return to Him.
